The beautiful beach here has a hillock nearby (286 m high). Carved stone
pillars and an ancient burial chamber can seen at the foot of the hills.
The hills are noted for rare medicinal herbs. A Naval Academy is being
developed here.

Temple was converted into a rock.

Shanmugham beach is just 8 kms from the city and forms an idealretreat
for sunset watchers. The beach lies adjacent to the Thiruvananthapuram
Airport and Veli Tourist Village. An indoor recreation club, the matsya
kanya (a gigantic, 35m long sculpture of a mermaid) and a restaurant shaped
like a starfish are some of the few eye catchers present here.

Thirumullavaram Beach is a secluded beach and forms an ideal picnic centre
and has frequent bus connections to Kollam. Mayyanad (10 km) is noted
for its shrines and temples. The most important of the nine temples here
is the Subramanya Temple at Umayanallor. There are frequent buses form
Kollam to Mayyanad.

Tanur

The small coastal fishing town of Tanur was one of the earliest settlements
of the Portuguese. It is believed that St. Francis Xavier visited the
place in 1546 and converted the local chieftain to Christianity. About
3 km south of Tanur is Keraladesapuram Temple , dedicated to Lord Vishnu
and is said to be one of Kerala's oldest temples
Kappad

Kappad Beach is a favourite haunt of sunset viewers. Adding to its natural
beauty is the old world charm retained in the old lighthouse and the two
crumbling piers, each more than a hundred years old, that run into the
sea. Entertainment facilities such as the Lions Park for children and
the marine water aquarium are added attractions.
Beypore,
Kozhikode
Beypore located at the mouth of the Chaliyar river, one of the prominent
ports and fishing harbours of ancient Kerala was an important trade and
maritime centre. Ancient Beypore was much sought after by merchants from
Western Asia, for its shipbuilding industry. The boat building yard here,
famous for the construction of the Uru (the Arabian trading vessel), boasts
a tradition of almost 1500 years.
Marine
Drive, Ernakulam
Marine Drive is considered to be one of the most beautiful parts of Kochy
city. The marine walk is the main hangout for the local populace as the
view of the backwaters and the harbour from here is excellent. At night
the lights from the various ships anchored at the harbour is just breathtaking.
Fort
Kochi Beach, Ernakulam
A leisurely walk through the city is the best way to discover historic
Fort Kochi . An obscure fishing village that became the first European
township in India, Kochi has an eventful and colourful history. The town
was shaped by the Portuguese, the Dutch and later the British. The result
of these cultural influences are seen in the many examples of Indo European
architecture that still exist here.
Bolghatty

Bolghatty Island is famous for its palace of the same name. Bolghatty
Palace was built by the Dutch on the Southern Extremity of the Bolghatty
Island just across the High Court Jetty.
Cherai
Beach, Ernakulam
Cherai Beach situated 25 kms from Cochin offers you that unique combination
of sea and backwaters rimmed by lush green coconut palms. From Ernakulam
you have to take the boat from High court Jetty or the main boat jetty
to Vypeen. Cherai is considered to be one of the virgin beaches of Kerala.
It is a virtual feast to the eyes and ears of the discerning tourist on
the hunt for some real beach experience, without the crowd and pollution.
The sea at Cherai is quite sedate.
